On the 4th edition of the International Forum on Social Innovation, we will have among us Portuguese sociologist Luísa Malhó, member of the High Commission for Migrations in Portugal. This institution was created in 1996 to promote policies that consider migration as an opportunity and not a problem.

On December 12th, thanks to Luísa Malhó, we will have the unique chance to discover how the Portuguese administration develops creative solutions for the social challenges that citizens face. In this specific case, we will see how they promote the social integration of migrants and refugees in Portugal.

Malhó will show us the experience of our neighbouring country, one of the few European states that has kept at bay xenophobic discourses. Currently, Portugal is in the second position (out of 10) of countries that better integrate migrants, according to the last Migrant Integration Policy Index.

Pedro Calado, President of the High Commission for Migrations in Portugal, stated recently that “Integration is not something that happens just out of the blue: it requires a method, discipline, investment and skills”.
